Otoplasty

Ear surgery also known as otoplasty is a procedure in which the ear can be reshaped through a variety of techniques, designed to permanently alter the shape of the ears, often to improve the appearance of protruding or asymmetric ears.
Cosmetic ear deformity results when the ear protrudes excessively away from the head. This deformity can cause significant embarrassment and fortunately can be corrected with minimal surgery.* The Lop ear deformity, as it is called by doctors, usually results from two specific problems. The first is that the normal fold that is present on most ears is absent and this causes the outer ear to bend outward. The other component to this is that the base of the ear called the conchal bowl is too high resulting in the base of the ear protruding away from the head. At the Center for Cosmetic & Laser Surgery our double board certified Plastic Surgeons can correct this with Naperville Otoplasty.
Otoplasty surgery to correct this takes approximately one hour. A dressing is worn for one day and then the sutures are removed in one week. Patients often may resume normal activity in 7 to 10 days.
